September 28 – February 22 Learning Through the Seasons: Place based learning for early childhood Eagle River September 28, 2019, November 23, 2019, February 22, 2020. Eagle River Nature Center, 32750 Eagle River Rd, Eagle River. Fun, fast paced and outdoors! Join us for the professional development opportunity especially for early childhood professionals, focusing on methods to integrate the natural world and wildlife in your classrooms. We’ll use the award winning Growing Up WILD and the Alaska Wildlife Curriculum. This is a ED 580 course through UAA for teacher recertification. You can attend all three sessions for the credit, although it is not required. There is a $50 registration fee. February 21 – 22 Winter Survival Skills (Alaskans Afield) Fairbanks Register at Alaskans Afield

Be comfortable and confident when venturing outdoors in the wintertime. Join us to learn the basics of dressing comfortably for the cold and snow and how to keep yourself alive in an emergency. Learn what to put in your survival kit and how to use it. Learn survival skills and how to make shelters, fire, generate water, signal for help and keep the right attitude in a survival situation. Adults and youth (12 and up accompanied by an adult) welcome, 1 youth under 18 can register for free with a paying adult. Friday evening, we will be inside reviewing clothing, equipment and survival strategies. Saturday, we will be outside practicing field skills. Please come prepared for the outdoor session with snacks, water and layers for cold weather.

Class will be cancelled if the temperature is Minus 25 F or below at the Fairbanks International Airport on the evening of Friday February 21st, or the morning of Saturday the 22nd.
