Water Withdrawal

4-in diameter intakes with proper screening

Water withdrawals are associated with many activities in the state, including agricultural, mining, and construction activities. Withdrawing water from a fish bearing waterbody requires a Fish Habitat Permit.

A properly screened water intake is important to avoid impacts to fish, particularly juvenile fish or smaller resident fish. The intake should be properly centered within a screened enclosure to reduce the potential for fish to be negatively impacted by the water withdrawal.

Please contact the Habitat Section office closest to your project site for assistance in determining the appropriate intake screen criteria for your project.
